Researching Einstein: Star-clusters, Eclipses, and Anti-Relativity 1918-1921

Diana L. Kormos-Buchwald, Professor of History, California Institute of Technology

From GPS, Bose-Einstein condensates, and gravitational waves, to quantum entanglement and dark matter, Einstein’s work has remained surprisingly relevant over the past century. Yet the scientific and political world in which Einstein lived and worked has changed dramatically.

Over the past two decades, ten volumes of The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein have brought to light a large amount of unknown documents and new insights into Einstein’s path from the Bern patent office and special relativity to his first visit to the United States and his famous Princeton lectures. We shall look at some highlights and point at things to come.
