The NEAR spacecraft has been in orbit around 433 Eros, a representative
S-type asteroid, since 14 February 2000 and will end its mission by making
a controlled descent to the surface on 12 February 2001.  What questions
has this most detailed-ever study of an asteroid answered?  What puzzles
remain to be resolved?
